Responsibilities: Managing the comprehensive spectrum of laboratory tests, including blood sugar, cholesterol screenings, bacterial cultures and many others.
What he likes most about his job: "Every day presents another interesting challenge as my colleagues and I work to get physicians the lab results that are critical for providing fast, accurate diagnoses. Today I'm a caregiver, but tomorrow I might be a patient, and I want the people who take care of me to be as dedicated as I am."

Responsibilities: Overseeing the heating, cooling, lighting, electrical and plumbing operations of the hospital and providing daytime security. His 11-person staff also manages radiation safety, medical gases and other features unique to hospital buildings. He and his staff regularly attend training seminars to stay up-to-date on new techniques and make sure they are prepared for any emergency.
What he likes most about his job: "It's tremendously satisfying to know that if anything breaks, we have the expertise to fix it."

Intensive Care Unit Manager

Responsibilities: Managing the 10-bed ICU. This houses the most critically ill patients, who usually have multiple medical problems, including cardiac and respiratory issues. He supervises a staff of 22 nurses who provide 24-hour care and he helps to inform and comfort patients' families.
What he likes most about his job: "Providing advanced care to fragile patients and helping their families through a difficult time is very rewarding."

Responsibilities: Evaluating and caring for patients with chronic wounds. This includes administering treatments such as compression therapy, casting and hyperbaric therapy.
What he likes most about his job: "We develop very close relationships with patients, and it's wonderful to watch the wound healing process as it occurs."

Responsibilities: Serving as a patient advocate and ensuring compliance with hospital guidelines and insurance requirements. Lane and her two-person staff help patients navigate complex insurance issues and find outpatient care and services when they are discharged.
What she likes most about her job: "I enjoy interacting with patients and their families and helping them get good care during their hospital stay and afterward."
